Direct Support Professionals assist with direct supervision, training, and support to consumers in order to stimulate the development of positive behaviors, skills and functioning levels conducive to employment and daily living.
Essential Functions:
1.
Direct Support Professionals assist with instruction and training of employees with developmental disabilities in the areas of pre-vocational trainings such as:
production, cleaning, and grounds maintenance, and community activities.
2.
Interact with employees with developmental disabilities professionally, respectfully, compassionately and as a peer throughout the entire workday and on a daily basis.
3.
Follow behavior plans as written and in-serviced.
4.
Provide First Aid to any employee with developmental disabilities as necessary.
5.
Provide Crisis Intervention utilizing Crisis Management techniques.
5.
Develop constructive habilitation activities, which all consumers can participate.
6.
Assist employees with developmental disabilities with feeding, toileting, ambulating and other custodial care as dictated by clientele, disabilities and as assigned by supervisor or designee.
7.
Perform any paperwork and record keeping relating to vocational training, i.
e.
individual's production counts, progress reports and charts, incident reports etc.
accurately and on a timely basis.
8.
Attend in-service trainings as requested by supervisor and/or administrative staff.
The following trainings are mandatory and, therefore, are an employment requirement:
Medication, DD Overview, Abuse/Neglect, First Aid, and Crisis Training.

Provide an organized, consistent, and structured environment.
10.
Set employees up for success and challenge them to progress to a higher level.
11.
Foster independence and adult behaviors.
12.
Willingly work with those who present challenging behaviors, exhibiting aggressive behaviors, are known Hepatitis B carriers, require physical assistance, one to one supervision and training, toileting and/or feeding assistance.
13.
Provide input into employee's program needs and goals in order to develop functional work and living skills.
14.
Tolerate prolonged standing, lifting, pushing, pulling and be able to ambulate throughout program to meet needs of people served.
15.
Communicate supplies and material needs to supervisor.
16.
Must be willing to accept varied job assignments, i.
e.
on-site training, off-site training, production, cleaning and provide van transportation/transportation aide, community and volunteer activities and serve as a back-up to job coaching and other centers.
This includes accepting job assignment changes.
17.
Commitment to adhering to safe and healthy practices by complying with workplace safety and health policies and procedures.
18.
Ability to comply with Abilities attendance policy.
19.
Comply with both agency and Division of Developmental Disabilities policies and procedures.
20.
Will comply with the agency's Ethical Conduct Policy.
SKILLS:
Good interpersonal skills with people in varied positions/agencies and consumers with different functioning levels and disabilities.
Ability to grasp effective training methods.
Ability to learn and carry out paperwork accurately requiring math and daily progress notes.
Ability to accurately quality and quantity control production contracts.
Proficient with technology (use of tablets, computers and Microsoft office Programs like Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point) Tolerate prolonged standing, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
EDUCATION/LICENSES:
High school diploma or GED.
A valid license is required and driving record in good standing.
Willingness to transport consumers in agency vehicles.
